Chazy Edges Poland 1-0 to Reach State Final Again

A goalkeeping error off Brandon Laurin's direct kick led to the only goal of the game as Chazy defeated previously unbeaten Poland 1-0 to advance to the New York State Class D boys soccer championship game.

According to John Coryer's Plattsburgh Press-Republican's account of the game, with 11:56 gone in the second half, "Laurin sent (the free kick) straight on net to Poland keeper Mitch Jones, who made what appeared to be an easy save. But when Jones tried to tuck the ball away like a football player, it slipped out of his hands, behind him and into the net."

The Eagles held on after taking the lead, despite Poland's physical play. The game was the closest the Eagles have played since the preseason Frankie Garrow tournament, but they were able to keep the Tornadoes off the scoreboard and secure the crucial victory.

Chazy raised its record to 20-0-1 with the win, and will face Fort Ann of Section II on Sunday November 18th with the state championship on the line.

Chazy outshot Poland 13-3. Jones made 10 saves for Poland, while Kyle Bisonnette made two stops in registering the shutout.

On Sunday, Chazy will be gunning for their sixth Class D state championship.
