Willsboro nearly upsets Chazy

Reigning state champs rally to edge Willsboro 3-2

WILLSBORO -- Chazy passed its first close call of the season Thursday afternoon when the Eagles recorded a 3-2 win over Willsboro in Mountain & Valley Athletic Conference boys' soccer action.

The Warriors grabbed a quick lead on Alex Hamel's goal with just 1:48 gone in the contest.

The Eagles, however, rallied for a 2-1 edge at the half when Ben Baker scored at 28:17 and then Tyler Bulriss with a big goal late in the half, at 38:53.

Brandon Laurin put Chazy up, 3-1, at 6:08 of the second half before Hamel brought Willsboro back to within one at the 13:51 mark. Patrick Wells assisted on both Hamel goals.

Austin Santor made five saves in net for Chazy and Justin Drinkwine 10 stops for Willsboro, which was outshot by a 19-9 margin.
