PHS, NAC boys win tourneys

CHAZY -- Michael Bennett broke out against Chazy to net four goals as Plattsburgh High defeated Chazy 4-2 to capture the Chazy Preseason Tournament.

The Eagles, who bring a lot of youth and talent, did not let the Hornets go easily with the victory.

Bennett broke the scoreless drought with 16 minutes left in the first half. Bennett ripped a shot from the left side of the 18 and deflected off Chazy goalie Austin Santor into the back of the net. Freshman, Ethan Votraw assisted on the goal.

Bennett came out of halftime hungry for more as he netted two kick goals in the first 10 minutes of the second half.

Chazy stormed back, Jordan Barriere laced a corner kick into the box, and Plattsburgh High goalie Justin Lavarnway came out for the save but Shea Howley was able to head the ball out of Lavarnway's gloves into the net, less than a minute after Bennett's.

The Eagles closed the gap even further at the 28 minute mark notching another goal. Brandon Laurin laid a ball off for Tyler Bulriss who beat his defender and shot a ball far post for the score.

The Hornets never gave up and kept fighting. Bennett scored his fourth goal of the game and fifth of the tournament when full-back Brandon Dunham sent a ball in from 35 yards out. Bennett settled turned and went one-on-one with Santor and went far post for the score.

Lavarnway made eight stops in net for the Hornets, and Santor had nine for the Eagles.

"This is back-to-back Chazy Tournament victories for us," Plattsburgh High Head Coach Chris LaRose said. "This is our home away from home.

"I appreciate all the hard work both Rob McAuliffe and Brian Norcross putting in for the tournament and making us feel welcome."
