For the second time in three years, the Poland boys soccer team took on top-ranked Chazy from Section VII in the Class D state championship, and for the second time in three years, Chazy won in a shutout, 1-0 at the National Soccer Hall of Fame in Oneonta.

With each team missing several opportunities to score throughout the game, Chazy finally broke through with 8:56 left in the second half when Stetson Fields put a shot in off the post. The goal proved to be the game-winner, giving the Eagles their third title in four years. Chazy beat Poland 3-0 in the 2005 championship, and also won in 2004 (1-0 against Genesee Valley from Section V).

In a game that was played mostly between the boxes, Poland struggled to control ball possession without senior midfielder and leading scorer Ed Rosenburgh, who had an emergency appendectomy on Monday. But the Tornadoes did prove they could keep up with the Eagles, as each team took turns clearing the ball to the middle of the field. However Chazy's quickness and ability to control the ball eventually paid off when Fields' shot went in.

Chazy ends the season with a 24-1-0 overall record. Poland, which entered the game ranked No. 3 in the state, finishes 19-3-3.
